Natural Tattoo Aftercare

Natural tattoo aftercare is always recommended by tattoo artists after their work is completed. It is important to use natural products because the skin is healing rapidly and can easily be annoyed by chemicals that are in fragrances and other ingredients in many moisturizers. These can cause the tattoo to itch, scab over, colors bleed, and general annoyance.

Natural tattoo aftercare is similar to taking care of an open wound. It should be cleaned with a anti-bacterial fragrance free soap, Dial makes a good one, and then blotted dry. Rubbing the fresh tattoo is very bad for it. It should be covered if it is in a place that contacts clothing and the dressing should be changed regularly. A thin layer of anti-biotic ointment should also be applied multiple times daily, but not too thick or it risks colors bleeding.

Natural tattoo aftercare also consists of keeping the tattoo moist. After it has healed for a few weeks it can be exposed anywhere but it will last much longer if it is kept moist with a fragrance free moisturizer for up to a month afterwards if not for its entire life. Protect it in bright sunlight especially early on. Cloth is always better than sun block which can react with the ink and contains more toxins than the ink ever will.
