Bright Tattoo Ink

Bright tattoo ink is a far cry from the traditional uses of tattoos. Way back during the industrialization of tattooing… you know that part where we moved from using boar’s teeth to repeatedly stab a tattoo towards using a factory-made needle for our stabbings like civilized people? Well during that time a shift was also happening in inks. The shift may seem subtle to us today.

But ink went from brown ink to black. Neither color is an especially bright tattoo ink. The difference between the two wouldn’t even be very apparent in a newly minted tattoo. However as the years wear on, a dark brown, almost black ink will fade to a lighter shade of brown. The newer black tattoos fade to blue.

Bright tattoo inks have only really shown up in the past 50 years.  They can be used to make a full color tattoo of just about anything. As with any tattoo, the ink fades but doesn’t disappear with time. This leads to a muted look on old tattoos. One solution is to have the tattoo touched up with new ink. One solution that hasn’t had extensive testing is a set of new inks that claim to be fade proof.
